Among Our People

GAY AND LGBTQ+ RETREATS

Find a gay retreat

Some trips you take to see a place. A retreat is the other kind: a few days of yoga, walking, writing or simply resting with a small group of other LGBTQ+ people, where you don't have to explain yourself at breakfast. The retreats are listed on Among Our People by the people who run them. You contact the organiser directly, and nobody takes a commission. We've only just opened, so the list is short for now.

Kinds of retreat

Yoga and wellness

Morning practice, good food and time to do nothing. Usually the easiest first retreat.

Men's retreats

Gay and bi men only, often by the sea or in the countryside. Some are mostly about rest, and others are about talking honestly with other men.

Mixed and queer retreats

Open to everyone under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, including trans and non-binary people.

Active retreats

Hiking, cycling, sailing or surfing, with a group to share the day and the evenings.

Creative and sober retreats

Writing, art or photography, and alcohol-free weeks for anyone who wants a break from the bar scene.

How to choose a retreat

  1. 1

    Check who it's for

Is it men only, or open to everyone? Some also give an age range. If it isn't clear, ask.

  2. 2

    Read what the price includes

Rooms, meals, sessions and airport transfers vary a lot, and flights are almost never included. Ask whether rooms are shared and what a single room costs.

  3. 3

    Ask about the group

How many people usually come, and how many come on their own? A group of ten feels very different from a group of forty.

  4. 4

    Look at the cancellation terms

Read them before you pay a deposit.

  5. 5

    Check the country

LGBTQ+ laws and attitudes vary a lot. Before you book, read the UK government's foreign travel advice for that country, or the US State Department's page for gay and lesbian travellers.

Why use Among Our People

Organisers list their own retreats, so you're reading their words and their prices. You send your question straight to them, and when you book, you book with them. We don't take a commission from either side, so the price you see is the organiser's own. Joining is free.
